The Atlantic Forest is among the planet's top five biodiversity hotspots and remains severely threatened. It represents 15% of the Brazilian territory; is present in 17 states and benefits 72% of the Brazilian population; 80% of the GDP and ecosystem services with water, soil, and climate regulation. So, this initiative aims to promote the restoration of the biome and contribute nationally and globally to climate change mitigation biodiversity, and water conservation.
The Atlantic Forest remains severely threatened as deforestation and regeneration occur simultaneously. Its restoration can make a substantial contribution to carbon sequestration and avoiding the 1.5C tipping point. In addition, recovering the Atlantic Forest's ecosystem services are critical for the Brazilian economy, people, and the planet.
The overall objective of the project is to contribute to the conservation and restoration of the Atlantic Forest, through the protection of existing remnants and the maintenance and/or improvement of water quantity and quality. It also aims to contribute to the mitigation and adaptation to climate change, the conservation of biodiversity and water, generating well-being for local populations.
The specific results in the territory are: 1) Increased forest cover; 2) Improved water quantity and quality; 3) Carbon sequestration; 4) Increased resilience of the territory;
