The President has declared a state of emergency in southern Malawi. Hunger prevails. Food prices rise daily. The Malawi Kwacha has lost half its’ value. UNICEF reports a 100% increase in child malnutrition since December. Poor farming families are forced to cope by eating fewer meals.

In Chiradzulu district, a vegetable vendor and mother of five, Beauty is up at three a.m. to prepare for the market. The day before, she bought tomatoes and okra from village farmers and packed them in her dengu (woven basket) and now makes the long trip to the market. With her earnings, she hopes to buy some white maize meal. It iscooked into a thick porridge called nsima, Malawi’s staple food. “We are living day to day, eating what we can manage to source for that day,” she will tell you.

You can help families like Beauty’s when you support this project. Beauty’s children will have access to nutritious fish and vegetables all year. Through this home Aquaponics project you will help improve their nutrition throughout the year – come drought or floods. Please help ASAP make a positive change in the lives of poor farming families.
