Project Report | Dec 28, 2023
Agriculture technical support and gender awareness

By Sopheat Tes | Executive Director of ODOV

The main activities during this reporting period involved with ODOV project staff members continued to provide follow-up to training participants on agriculture techniques. A total of 50 target households (32 women) who grow vegetables and raise chickens benefit from the extension service provided by ODOV. Through the support from the project, these households acquired enough knowledge and skills to grow their own food production for their household’s consumptions and receiving additional income from selling the surplus food produced to support their livelihoods.

The result was collected from the target households confirmed that within the last three months, the target households produced 15,600kg of vegetables. Out of 2,000 kg consumed by the households and remaining 13,600kg of vegetables were sold and received an income of $6,800. In addition to this, the households also produced 920kg of chicken meats. Out of 370kg were consumed and the 550kg of chickens were sold and received an income of $2,200. Average, each household was able to receive $180 additional income from selling vegetables and chickens within three months. These households have continued to grow vegetables and raised chickens to improve their living conditions. On average, each household grow at least five variety of vegetates and raised 13 hens, three rosters, 38 adult chickens and 67 chicks.

Along with proving technical support on food production, ODOV staff members also worked to raise awareness about gender equality for all the 50 project participants. They have obtained knowledge about gender stereotypes, gender roles, access and control over household resources, etc. which enables them to apply this learning knowledge in their daily life.
