The main activities of this reporting period involved raising awareness of gender and providing follow-up for the project participants. ODOV project staff conducted 5 village meetings to disseminate the information on gender to the target households. A total of 50 target households (32 women) were in attendance. Through attending these meetings, they gained more knowledge on gender roles, especially, sharing household roles among women and men in their families.
Besides, raising awareness of the gender for the target households, ODOV staff continued conducting field follow-up visits for the project participants. A total of 50 target households (32 women) who grow vegetables and raise chickens benefit from the extension service provided by ODOV project staff. Through the support from the project, these households acquired enough knowledge and skills to grow their own food for their household’s consumption and receive additional income from selling the surplus food produced to support their livelihoods.
The information collected from the target households confirmed that within the last four months, the target households produced 17,350kg of vegetables. Out of 1,850 kg consumed by the households and remaining 15,500kg of vegetables were sold and received an income of $7,750. In addition to this, the households also produced 835kg of chicken meats. Out of 365kg were consumed and the 470kg of chickens were sold and received an income of $1,880.
On average, each household was able to receive $192 additional income from selling vegetables and chickens within the last four months. These households still continue to grow vegetables and raise chickens to improve their livelihoods. On average, each household grows at least five varieties of vegetates and raises 11 hens, three rosters, 30 adult chickens, and 70 chicks.
