Distribution chickens to returned migrants

This is the second report of a project called "Enhance Food Security for 300 returned migrants". During this reporting period, ODOV technical staff conducted follow-ups with training participants who had been trained on sustainable agriculture production and provided additional technical support as needed. A total of individual 50 participants (32 women) gained more knowledge which enabled them to utilize this knowledge to grow their own food production.

Along with conducting follow-ups with training participants, ODOV also distributed chickens to households to raise. A total of 245 kg of chickens were distributed to individual 49 households (32 women) by the project. Each household received 5 chickens (four hens and one rooster). ODOV also help coordinating to give vaccines to chickens. A total of 254 chickens were vaccinated.

The support from the projects enables the returned migrants to produce their own food by growing vegetables and raising chickens to meet the household’s needs. The result confirmed that among 50 returned migrants who ODOV worked with, they have access to nutritious food for daily household consumption as well as earning additional income to support their families. Significantly, a total 6,960kg of vegetables and 554kg of chicken meats were produced by the individual households in the last three months. More than fifty percentage of food produced (vegetables and of chicken meats) were consumed by the individual households, and the surplus food were sold for incomes to support their family. One an average a household earned additional income 69$ from the selling surplus food produced.

" Since, I participated in the project, I grew vegetables and I am happy that my family has enough vegetables to eat daily. I also earned some money from selling the surplus vegetables produced. We would like to say thank you to ODOV and donors for their support and helping us to improve our living conditions" Said by Aunt Chey Samean
