Summary

The project will, across 10 cities in China, help more than 10,000 families with children, pregnant women, or the elderly to identify and avoid chemical-residue hazards in food-such as pesticides and veterinary drugs-understand food ingredient labels, and safeguard the safety of their daily meals, through independent third-party testing, public education, and the application of AI technology.

Challenge

Food from China's online grocers faces widespread pesticide and veterinary-drug residues-yet official online sampling covers under 5%. 2025 provincial data shows 4,667 substandard edible-agricultural batches (41.5% of all). Families with children, pregnant women, or elderly are most at risk: chronic low-dose exposure harms their nerves, endocrine system, liver, and kidneys. "Food Guardian" will serve 10,000+ such families across 10 cities who rely on e-commerce platforms.

Solution

"Food Guardian" tackles food-safety risks through four replicable actions: (1) independent testing that pushes problem foods from e-commerce platforms; (2) creating easy-to-understand content and community Q&A under the "Tian Xiaowa" IP; (3) an AI assistant that reads ingredient labels from a photo and delivers standards-based warnings in seconds; (4) using data to advise regulators and push platforms to improve supply-chain management. Proven in China, the model can scale globally.

Long-Term Impact

Over the next three years (2026-2028), Food Guardian will keep protecting more than 10,000 families with children, pregnant women, and elderly members across 10 Chinese cities, with a special focus on the most vulnerable groups-expectant mothers and young children aged 0-6-helping them avoid food-safety risks at the table and protect their physical health.
