Food for Thought- Feeding Students in Rural Kenya

The number of students in Prep for Success who rely on the daily lunch that is an important part of the program is higher than it has been in the last two years. In fact, over 40 more children are enrolled than last year bringing the number to over 260!

This increase is due to the demostrated effectiveness of the academic program at the three Focus Schools where we work. Parents in Kenya can enroll their children in the school of their choice, as long as they can get them there, and are not limited by strict districting rules.  This means that when the scores on the national Grade 9 exam are released, parents choose to enroll their children where we work.

We are honored and humbled by the trust they place in us, and we are proud of the achievements of the students we work with.

A new school year in Kenya began a few weeks ago.  There isn't a system of school districts so parents are able to enroll their children in any school that they would like, as long as they can get them to school and pay the fees (even public schools have fees).  The students in our Prep for Success tutoring and mentorship program had great success on the national exam at the end of their school year, and the scores are public, which makes the three schools where we run our programs very desirable.  As a result we have over 40 more students to feed in our program than last year!  That is a big expense and we need help covering this cost.  Your support makes such a difference!
