Food and Nutritional Security

Dear donor, 

Your donation has been invaluable. Even though COVID-19 cases are few and far between in our city, families continue to struggle financially because of the pandemic. It could be due to either high unemployment rates, decreased purchasing power, or high inflation in the country.

One of the families that we’ve been able to help in the last year has been Samuel’s, who were sent to the Dara Institute during his first year of life, due to low glucose levels upon his birth.

Right after he was released from the hospital, his family was evicted because of their past due rent payments. For lack of any other options, the family began living in an abandoned house that had no access to clean drinking water, increased levels of humidity and no home appliances. They’ve had trouble providing their children all their meals.

With Dara’s help, all family members have been tended to by healthcare professionals, education officials, housing officials, and income experts. Other than these services, they receive monthly food cards that provide food security and specific supplies that increase the family’s quality of life like special formula milk for Samuel and a water filter, making it drinkable.

Despite initial difficulties, Samuel has developed according to his age’s average and his parents are hopeful that they’ll be able to improve their living conditions.
