In New York City, 1.2 million people face food insecurity due to rising food prices, skyrocketing cost of living, and funding cuts to food programs. Access to nutritious food is a cornerstone of well-being for New Yorkers living with HIV and other chronic conditions. Annually, Alliance for Positive Change reaches thousands of low-income New Yorkers with the essential ingredients to reduce food insecurity, manage health conditions, and pursue positive change in all its forms.
In New York City, 1.2 million people face food insecurity due to rising food prices, skyrocketing cost of living, and funding cuts to food programs. Access to nutritious food is a cornerstone of well-being for New Yorkers living with HIV and other chronic conditions. As funding for food programs becomes increasingly scarce, support for our Food and Nutrition Services is more critical than ever to sustain this vital, nourishing, and life-saving work.
Alliance for Positive Change's Food and Nutrition Services provides pantry bags, daily congregate meals, snack and grab-and-go bags, and food vouchers. Annually, we serve 20,000 meals; 2,800 pantry bags; 3,000+ snack and grab-and-go meals; and weekly nutrition counseling sessions. By addressing food insecurity, we build the trust and foundation for engaging people in our full spectrum of services to achieve positive change in all its forms.
We serve low-income communities of color, LGBTQ+ people, HIV-positive communities, people in recovery, and older adults who rely on us for support. Our Food and Nutrition Services facilitates initial service engagement, re-engagement, and deeper engagement in services over time. We build trust and rapport, meet immediate and urgent needs, foster community with congregate meals, and promote consistent participation in the Alliance's comprehensive services.
