Quarterly Progress Report – Flood-Affected Libraries Initiative January – March | Alif Laila Book Bus Society The Flood-Affected Libraries Initiative continues to provide critical access to books and learning for children in remote and underserved communities across Pakistan. Through a combination of Camel Libraries, Boat Libraries, and school-based “Hamara Kutub Khana” libraries, the programme is creating safe, engaging spaces for literacy and creative learning. During this quarter, regular and structured outreach ensured consistent engagement, with each mobile library reaching 250–370 children monthly, reflecting strong community trust and participation. Key Impact Highlights Improved Literacy: Children are developing reading habits and strengthening comprehension skills Active Engagement: Storytelling, puppet shows, and interactive sessions increased participation Community Spaces: Libraries are evolving into shared learning hubs for children and families Reach & Scale Mobile Libraries (Camel & Boat) Monthly Reach: 2,112 children Quarterly Reach: 6,336 children Locations: Khairpur, Cholistan, Sukkur, Nara, Salehpat, Rajanpur Hamara Kutub Khana (School Libraries) Total Reach: 10,960 children Regions Covered: Sukkur, Jamshoro, Buner Bamboo School – Dera Allah Yar (Balochistan) A flood-resilient school model ensuring continuity of education: Safe, elevated, and child-friendly learning space Continued access to books and structured learning Promotes sustainable, climate-responsive infrastructure Children’s Impact Stories Saadia now regularly borrows books and enjoys reading independently Huma learned to read through library sessions without prior schooling Majid developed curiosity about the world through books Farah balances household responsibilities while continuing her reading journey Mazher shows a growing interest in science and animals Ammara shares stories within her family, extending learning beyond the library Andleeb actively participates and eagerly attends every session Challenges Extreme weather conditions affecting mobility Poverty and limited access to learning resources Need for more diverse and updated book collections Logistical challenges in reaching remote areas Community Feedback Increased reading interest at home Improved confidence and classroom participation Strong appreciation for access to books and learning opportunities Total Impact (This Quarter) Programme Children Reached Mobile Libraries (Quarterly) 6,336 Hamara Kutub Khana 10,960 Total Reach 17,296 children This quarter, the initiative has successfully reached over 17,000 children, providing not just access to books but pathways to imagination, learning, and hope. By combining mobile outreach with school-based libraries, the programme ensures both access and continuity in education. With continued donor support, Alif Laila Book Bus Society aims to expand its reach further bringing books, creativity, and opportunity to children who need it most.
