We really like to talk about great and positive news in our organization. And some big news is happing in December. We are starting our first social manufactory in small village Utekác, district Poltár.

We have been working on this new milestone for our beekeeping project since June 2019. We were looking for new space for beeswax manufactory. One of the regions with highest unemployment in Slovakia has lot of brownfields and old glass factory in Utekác turned out to be a good choice.
We have been renting second floor of formal administrative building from September. From this moment, we have started reconstructing this space for our social business.

In November, we realized two courses of beeswax processing for 20 people from the community who were unemployed in a long term.

So, it looks like everything is ready for opening… but we still need your help. On our table are still coming some new invoices. We still need your help in order to finish the heating so that our new employees could work in a warm, renovated and ready places, and they have some facilities to take a shower after work or just to have some small space to drink a coffee during their coffee break. We would be very grateful for your help, thank you very much in advance.

This project is managed by Vceli kRaj.

We have been at this place for six years. Let us sum up our main activities we have focused on throughout the years:

  • Educating the public in an experiential manner about the significance and irreplacability of pollinators.
  • Creating positive relationships between humans and bees. Tearing down the fear of the unknown.
  • Creating a general awareness in society that man cannot just sever his ties with nature and bind himself to technology.
  • Creating an educational centre in Slovakia that will offer programmes about bees and other pollinators for everyone from the smallest children (as you can see in the picture :) ) to the elderly, from laymen to experts.

We want to share a video with you, which is about honey bees, which we used to focus on mainly. But this year, a lot has changed. We have launched new program about bumble bees and butterflies. Next year you will find more and more about all pollinators.

Be part of this change. Thank you.

Did you know, that in the past, if you wanted to use artificial light, you could use “the Sun” hidden in beeswax. Nowadays, when electricity is quite common, honeybees and their beeswax can do a really good job again.

From June, we are starting our new project. We want to create social manufactory, which will provide places fo unemployed people from the region. Main material in this manufactory will be beeswax.

This project is continuation of our pilot project, which was focused on acquiring knowledge about honeybees and bee product. This pilot project ended with great results, so the new project was a necessity for well-started cooperation. About first impact of project you will read in the next report.

We were not thinking that it will be so difficult. Our goal was to teach kids and public about the connection between  our food and pollination. But, it was not only about education. We found that it´s very important also to help children loose their fear from bees. This important step was the missing piece of bees education, and now we finished our puzzle. We are not teaching, we are creating friends of bees.

We had finished our sixth beekeeping season in our apiary, and we are proud, that we made hundreds and thousands kids and adult friends of bees. Now is the time to go further.

From this year we extend our program on solitary bees, butterflies and bumble bees. We are preparing new experiences to make new friends of all pollinators. They will see how solitary bees are securing future for their posterity, how colony of bumblebees is building their home and how is it possible that this beautiful butterfly used to be ugly caterpillar. Cross your fingers for us to make year 2019 a year of pollinators. Because they also need friends. Thank you.

Our beekeeping season is over. The bees are checked, protected against varroa mite, fed before long winter. And despite that, its beeing talked about the bees, the landscape in Slovakia and region more and more.

When experts are talking about the bees

It was really tight. Not much was missing and the bees would have won the grand prix. At least we had won a special recognition. Award for the landcsape went to town Banská Štiavnica and its renovation of its calvary. The victory is very deserved. At least we have brought up a topic that starts to be discussed among the profesionals - the bees and their importance in the landscape.

When kids are talking about the bees

With the beginning of the new school year, the extra-curricular activities start as well. To the beekeeping class for children at the elementary school in Lucenec a new class was established at a school in a small village Utekác. We are very happy that our beekeeping classes are visited by more and more children. Children are pointing at us at the street of a town also at the village- " this is the beekeeper".  And what is the most important, new generation is talking about the bees.

When people at the streets are talking about the bees

Standing in line at a shop the cashier is smiling at us. With the feeling that there is something on my face we come to pay. And the cashier is telling us, "I know you. You are working with the bees and schools."

This situation might be familiar to celebrities. Now this feeling is familiar to a beekeeper, ecologist.

Slovakia is tossed by different topics. Election, hockey, celebrity shows.. and now also the topic of bees. When the topic of bees is discussed by general public and professionals, its great. We hope it is not just 15 minutes of fame but we hope our small team achieved a big thing: topic of bees is discussed...
