Finish school, create future

What are our concerns?

In Argentina, 4 out of 10 young people fail to finish school in standard education. In vulnerable populations this figure rises to 7 out of 10. Demotivation, grade repetition, economic difficulties, the need to go out to work, teenage pregnancy and caregiving are some of the problems that trigger school dropout.

What is our proposal?

Our proposal is to accompany students between 12 and 18 years of age in situations of socioeconomic vulnerability, so that they can progress and finish high school. The Program promotes, through accompaniment, the development of socio-emotional skills that contribute to: improve the school career of young people; increase their chances of obtaining a high school diploma; project their future with more opportunities. 

Futuros Egresados is our core program, born in 1997, and is implemented through three fundamental pillars: 

• Personalized educational support: the person in charge of support holds monthly and personalized interviews with each participating student, in which small goals are set to stimulate and promote their socioemotional skills in order to successfully advance in their school career. 
• Economic support: the families of the participating students receive a monthly stipend to cover educational needs or other types of deficiencies that have a direct impact on their ability to attend school. 
• Exchange of experiences: the students participate in meeting and exchange sessions as well as in workshops and group interviews with peers of the Program, where they share activities related to topics that respond to their concerns and particular moments of their school career.

 Our differential lies in the methodology of personalized accompaniment focused on the development of key socioemotional skills to achieve satisfactory school trajectories (Self-concept, Decision-making, Interpersonal Relationships, Responsibility and Autonomy, Planning and Organization of Time), whose approach was built based on our own experience, supported by evaluation studies. Its implementation at the national level, in the school environment and by professionals hired by Cimientos, is also highlighted. 

 Main indicators:

• The program's reach is 2660 students in 113 secondary schools in 66 locations in the country. 
• Students develop skills that favor their adaptation to high school.
• As a result of the accompaniment, the chances of effective graduation in due time and form are increased by 47% compared to the achievements of the vulnerable population. 
• Seventy-one percent of the participants manage to continue studying and/or working one year after finishing their school career.
