For years, 41-year-old Jenifer lived a quiet and painful life in Prongo village. Like many women in her community, she stayed at home and had little say in family decisions. Her HIV status isolated her further—she was denied the right to associate freely, suffered domestic violence, and endured the heartbreak of watching her four children miss school while others in the community progressed. Over time, she began to believe this was her fate.
Everything changed when the VACNET Loan Program reached Prongo Village. Through business skills training, Jenifer gained the confidence to dream again. It was the first time she joined a women’s group, where she connected with others who shared her struggles and determination. Together with 128 other women, Jenifer received a microloan and refresher training, supported by mentorship from an assigned peer counselor. With her first loan, she started a small business that now provides for her family and supports her children’s education.
“The training gave me courage and hope. I can now earn, decide, and support my children, I feel like I have a new life,” says Jenifer with pride.
Thanks to the generosity of our donors, a microloan of just $60 to $100 can help a woman like Jenifer start or grow a business, restore her dignity, and create lasting change for her family.
Join us in empowering more women together, we can transform lives.
