This project intend to Fight the injustice of human trafficking in Rwanda through education of youth and land transit monitoring and helping potential victims find a safe passage back to their homes. "Transit Monitoring involves the identification, interception, support the police to arrest traffickers and assistance of actual or high-risk trafficking victims at transit points (such as airports, borders, and bus or train stations) before they reach the destination where they will be exploited''
According to the recent report of the US department on Human trafficking ,Rwanda is a source, transit and destination country for men, women, and children subjected to trafficking. From 2019 to date, EJO TWIFUZA staffs we 've intercepted 222 individuals to prevent them from being trafficked. Victims are trafficked for forced sex, organs business, forced labor, criminal activities, soldering in armed groups. The number of victims of human trafficking is growing more today than ever in history.
This project will Increase awareness of more than 30 000 youth on the danger of human trafficking, will train 16 volunteers to conduct transit monitoring at strategic transit points such as airports, borders, and bus or train stations to stop traffickers and assist potential victims intercepted from trafficking with the most needed services such as food, short term shelter, healing assistance and transport support to get how to find a safe passage back home in their respective families.
The impact of this project is that more than 30 000 youth in high schools will be educated on the danger of human trafficking ,16 trained monitors volunteers will conduct transit monitoring of 8 identified sensible transit stations targeting to intercept more victims from human trafficking and stop traffickers. More than 240 intercepted Victims will be assisted with meals, short term shelter, health care and healing assistance and transport support to get how to find a safe passage back homes.
