Challenge

Haiti's Challenges: A high rate of infection 8.2% based on limited testing; A dysfunctional health care system with 50% of health care facilities concentrated in Greater Port-au-Prince and little left to the other 9 Departments and rural communities; Crowded living conditions with a population of 11 million; Day-to-day income generation necessary for a large majority of our population.

Solution

Our Prevention Strategy: Outreach to communities by trained & trusted community leaders; Providing community residents with hygiene kits & information. Impact: The Grand'Anse Region is key to Haiti's food security & agriculture. Our 1st phase supports 19 communities that are most vulnerable as they have less support. The Stakes are high: the lives & health of 12,600 families-about 40,000 people who are essential to the economy of the Grand'Anse as farming families, & indispensable to Haiti!

Long-Term Impact

Long-Term Impact: *Lower number of infections and deaths from COVID-19; *Stronger resilience and capacity built within rural communities facing epidemics and pandemics; *Lower incidence of diseases due to learned demonstrated hygiene instructions; *Stronger community health; *Maintenance of region's output; *Lower impact on Haiti's economic and food security.
