Summary:
The proposed project aims to alleviate the suffering of Syrian refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Turkey and Syria by distributing food baskets to those most in need. The project responds to the dire living conditions and lack of job opportunities faced by over 600,000 Syrian refugees in Sanliurfa, Turkey, and many more displaced individuals within Syria. Widows, who have lost their breadwinners and struggle to meet basic food needs, are particularly vulnerable.
Solution:
The solution involves distributing 500 food baskets to the neediest refugees and IDPs in Turkey and Syria. Each basket will contain essential food items such as sugar, tea, rice, oil, and more. The project will involve purchasing food, packing it into boxes, and distributing it across different sectors in Sanliurfa and affected areas in Syria. Media documentation and detailed records will ensure transparency and accountability.
Date of Implementation: July 2924
Distribution Location: NW Syria
The story of a family in Syria:
The family consists of six members who fled to northern Syria to escape the war in the Aleppo countryside. Currently, they live in a makeshift camp in the northern region of Idlib.
The father is battling cancer, and the mother suffers from diabetes. They have four children who live in a tent that offers little protection from the summer heat. With no steady source of income, the family faces significant hardships. The mother works part-time in agricultural plowing but cannot maintain permanent work due to her responsibilities of caring for her sick husband and children.
Their youngest child, a two-year-old, suffers from illnesses caused by hunger, malnutrition, and the lack of clean drinking water. The older children have been unable to attend school because the family cannot afford their basic needs.
To support the family, two food baskets were distributed to help them meet their nutritional needs for one month.
The story of a family in Turkey:
A widow and caretaker of her family, this woman has faced unimaginable hardships since her husband was killed during the indiscriminate bombing of the Deir ez-Zor countryside in Syria. She fled the war in 2017, entering Turkey with her young son and two nephews, who were orphaned after the deaths of her sister and brother-in-law during the conflict.
The family now lives in a small, poorly equipped house that lacks basic necessities, making daily life a constant struggle. The house is not registered with the Civil Status Department, which excludes them from receiving official assistance or government support. Despite these challenges, the widow does her best to care for her family, relying on the goodwill of neighbors for basic needs such as food and clothing.
One of her nephews has Down Syndrome and requires constant attention and care. The widow cannot leave him alone, making it impossible for her to seek employment. As a result, the family’s situation has grown increasingly dire, with limited access to food, clean water, and other essential resources.
Recognizing their urgent need, two food baskets were distributed to the family this month. Each basket was filled with essential items such as rice, oil, sugar, and tea, which helped the family meet their nutritional needs temporarily. This small but impactful act of support provided the widow with some relief, ensuring the children had enough to eat and alleviating her constant worry, at least for a while.
The widow expressed deep gratitude for the assistance, as it not only fed her family but also gave her a sense of hope amid the overwhelming challenges she faces. The provision of food baskets underscores the critical importance of sustained humanitarian aid to support families like hers, who are struggling to survive under extraordinary circumstances.
This story serves as a poignant reminder of the resilience and courage of those displaced by war and the need for continued support to ensure they can live with dignity and hope for a better future.
