This project will be executed in three phases. Phase 1: Approach the population to identify the children under some level of malnutrition or at high risk of being malnourished, who find themselves in psychosocial risk. Phase 2: Select the initial beneficiaries and connect them with the Soup Kitchen and our Child Center. Phase 3: Nutritional follow-up, academic tutoring, psychological sessions and educational workshops.
Currently, the environments in which the children of Antioquia are developing and the grave socioeconomic and political conditions our region is going through, constitute a limitation for a healthy holistic development and protection. This gives room for the confrontation of large population groups in danger, because of the lack of a fixed income, of adequate living conditions and more often than not, a lack of support from the government.
We provide the community with a safe space where children can come spend their free time, before or after school, aiming to keep them healthy, focused in school and out of the streets. Fundacion Tiempo de Paz has two centers in the poorest and most vulnerable "comunas" of Medellin where children receive 2 nutritious meals everyday, school tutoring, reading time, music workshops and psychological therapy as needed.
Our long term goal is recovering the children's Body Mass Index and weight based on their respective ages, improve their clinical signs of malnutrition, prevent school dropouts and basically educate our children in universal principles and values, thus generating a culture of peace. By providing them with a safe space to spend their free time we strive to prevent sexual child abuse, protect the children from being used in the traffic of narcotic drugs and being incorporated into armed groups.
