This project contributes to the improvement of the nutritional condition of 120 children in early childhood through a model of poverty alleviation that combines nutrition programs and education, health and entrepreneurship strategies to encourage the children's families' overall development in Barranquilla, Colombia.
Barranquilla is among the 10 cities in Colombia that show the greatest index of childhood malnutrition. From its population, 22% are less than 15 years old, with a mortality rate of 13.9% due to pneumonia, 12.4% due to intestinal diseases and 5.2% due to malnutrition. This situation is worsened by the fact that families don't have income for a healthy feeding for their children. The project provides children with a complete diet with balanced nutrients to improve their growth and development.
The project will work on giving children a daily lunch, training and doing workshops on nutritional education and healthy lifestyles to children and to families, do home visits for psychosocial support of the families ad well as making nutritional diagnosis every three months to the children. At the same time, beneficiaries will have psychosocial support at home when necessary and the parents will have productive trainings and income generation workshops in order to improve their quality of life
The Project will feed 120 children during 6 months and provide nutritional education to them and their families, which will provide the tools and knowledge in healthy life habits to improve families' overall development.
