Access to education is a proven poverty reduction measure as it allows children to go to school, develop tangible skills, and become more economically secure. PeaceTrees focuses on empowering children through three educational programs: kindergarten education, nutrition, and scholarships.

Today we are sharing a progress report on our scholarship program which you helped fund!

On August 13th and 14th, PeaceTrees awarded 180 scholarships to support students in Quang Tri Province. These young scholars received notebooks, fabric for uniforms, and funding for the expenses and fees that are often a barrier to education.

Scholarship recipients have demonstrated financial need, good study habits, or belong to ethnic minority communities. Families receiving PeaceTrees scholarships are often those who have been devastated by accidents involving unexploded ordnance (UXO). When a child or a family member is injured in a UXO accident, it is extremely difficult for the family to recover economically and afford schooling. Each of these 180 scholarships provides a student with additional tools to help them break out of the larger cycle of poverty. Today we celebrate our young scholars and wish them radiant futures.

Want to help us make an even bigger impact? You can help more children in Quang Tri Province access education by making a contribution of $50 today. On behalf of all of our scholarship recipients, thank you for your support !

We are thrilled to announce that 166 students from across our kindergartens in Quang Tri are graduating this year! After the summer, they’ll be moving onto the 1st grade. To congratulate these awesome students on their latest achievements, PeaceTrees gifted each of them a brand new school bag to use in the upcoming school year. Join us in celebrating these little grads; we know they have such bright futures ahead of them!

This year, we had a total of 461 children enrolled in our kindergartens! As you might already know, the students attending our kindergartens tend to come from low income ethnic minority communities in rural areas struggling with inadequate access to food and education.

Gifts from our generous donors provide kindergarteners with meals, fund scholarships, and crucially maintain the community buildings that the children learn and grow in!

PeaceTrees thanks you deeply for your continued support!

Here in Quang Tri Province, the main event from the last three months was the lunar new year or the ‘tet’ festival, which was celebrated by Vietnamese communities all over the world. Since all schools had a holiday on the actual day of ‘Tet’, February 5th, we celebrated it with our students once they arrived back in the classroom. Your donations and generosity make this work possible; without your support, many children would have no school to go back to following the holiday with their families. In Vietnam, the new year represents a ‘clean-slate,’ and new clothes are bought and worn on new year’s day as a symbol of this. Thanks to you, we can support an increasing number of children to begin their new year with hope. Education gives many of our students from minority backgrounds a chance to break the cycle of poverty that affects their families, still hurting from the aftermath of the war. Critically, the fifteen kindergartens that we run in Quang Tri because of your donations give over 450 children a foot on the ladder towards a better life, a chance that every child deserves.

PeaceTrees wishes you a happy lunar new year, no matter when or how you celebrated it! Since new year represents a time for fresh starts we hope you will continue to donate, helping us to give these children and their families new beginnings and prospects they would be otherwise unable to access. Thank you for your generous support!

Since early September, classes at our PeaceTrees Vietnam kindergartens have been in full swing! These kindergartens service hundreds of young children in Quang Tri Province, Vietnam most of whom are part of ethnic minority groups. Our classes teach the children Vietnamese so that they are more likely to succeed in their further education. It is only with your generous support that we have been able to consistently open new kindergartens since 2002. Our most recent kindergarten is the Dash Friendship Kindergarten in Cooc Village which opened its doors in the Fall of 2018. Before the construction of the kindergarten, only 14 kindergarten-aged children out of 53 in the village were able to attend school, and had to travel up to 2 kilometers each day to do so. Since its opening, the Dash Friendship Kindergarten has provided a safe place for the kindergarten-aged children in Cooc Village to learn and play. In addition to the construction of the new school building, the kindergarten also enjoyed the construction of brand new playground equipment. The play structure is specifically designed to be safe for young children and offers a fun place for the children to play between classes and after school.

Your generous donations make it possible for us to continue to expand our kindergarten programs. We hope that you will consider giving to PeaceTrees Vietnam to provide opportunities for success to even more children all across Quang Tri Province, Vietnam.

Thank you for your support!

School is back in session! On September 5th, we welcomed students back to our 14 kindergartens in Quang Tri Province Vietnam. We are thrilled to report that two of those kindergartens are new and opened their doors to students for the first time this year! It is with your continued support and generosity that these children are able to have access to early education and developmental programs. Your donations go towards teaching materials, supplies, and many other resources that ensure a safe space for children to play and learn. Your funding also goes towards our highly important Kindergarten food program! All of our kindergarten students receive a nutritious meal that is prepared everyday by their teachers, that includes protein, rice, and vegetables from the local market. Many of the students come from impoverished backgrounds, so these daily meals are not only crucial in providing them with the energy to learn in the classroom, but are also important for their overall growth and development.

We are so happy to see our students back in classes for the 2018-2019 school season! We hope that you will consider donating so that we can give even more children access to a better education and a better future.

Thank you!
