Vulnerable and Street children are on the street to scavenge for food in the dustbin to survive at the expense of enrolling in school. Feeding program not only give incentive for the child to go to school but help reduce the number of street children. Sheepcare believes that without education such children have no hope and the circle of poverty will be endless. Feeding such is the surest way that he/she will finish school and secure a bright future.
Children in Soweto Slums of Nairobi scavenge for food in the dustbin and end up as street children and not going to school. Our research have found out that lack of food is a major course for the increased number of street children and many school drop outs in the slum.
By feeding them, the children will have an incentive not only go to school but reduce the number of school drop out. For the past 17 years, we have seen the percentage of drop outs reduce and over 75% exit from primary school to high school.
Many children who would otherwise not have gone to school would have done so and their lives improved and the number of street children reduced.
