Update on the progress report on

By Samuel Akaraonye | Founder/CEO

This report provides an update on the progress of the FEED 500 INSANE PATIENTS IN SOUTHEAST, NIGERIA project (ID: 54329). Our mission is to improve the wellbeing of vulnerable individuals living with severe mental illness by providing nutritious food, compassionate care, and community support while promoting dignity, inclusion, and hope.

Although we have not yet received external financial support during this reporting period, we remain committed to advancing this humanitarian mission through our social enterprise and volunteer efforts.

2. Appreciation to GlobalGiving

We sincerely appreciate GlobalGiving for providing a trusted platform that enables organizations like ours to connect with compassionate supporters around the world.

Although we have not yet received external donations for this project, we are grateful for the opportunity to share our mission and remain hopeful that future donor support will enable us to reach more vulnerable beneficiaries.

. Funding Status

During this reporting period, the project did not receive any external financial donations.

Despite this, we continued to invest our own time, expertise, and limited resources through our social enterprise to sustain project planning, humanitarian outreach, and nutrition-focused interventions.

4. Project ActivitiesNutrition Support Planning

We continued developing sustainable strategies to provide nutrient-dense meals and nutrition support for people living with severe mental illness, recognizing that good nutrition plays an important role in overall health and recovery.

Community Awareness

We promoted greater awareness about mental health, encouraging compassion, dignity, and community support for vulnerable individuals living with mental illness.

Samony Food Innovation

Through Samony Food Innovation, we continued developing nutrient-dense fortified foods and nutraceutical diet products that can support vulnerable populations, including people with special nutritional needs.

Food Innovation & Training Hub (FIT-Hub)

Through our Food Innovation & Training Hub (FIT-Hub), we continued promoting nutrition education, food safety, food innovation, and sustainable food production to strengthen community resilience and support future humanitarian interventions.

5. Social Enterprise Support

Although no external funding has been received, our social enterprise continues to sustain aspects of this project through in-kind contributions, research, innovation, and volunteer engagement.

For the past three years, we have consistently donated food during the pilot testing of newly developed nutraceutical diet products and nutrient-dense fortified foods. These donations have supported vulnerable individuals while helping us improve the nutritional quality, safety, and effectiveness of our products.

Our innovation process continues to serve both product development and humanitarian outreach.

6. Estimated Impact

Despite limited financial resources, the project continued to make encouraging progress.

Community Reach

  • Approximately 25–40 individuals reached through mental health awareness and community engagement activities.
  • 10–15 vulnerable individuals and caregivers benefited from nutrition education and support initiatives.
  • Increased awareness of the importance of nutrition, compassion, and social inclusion for people living with severe mental illness.

Innovation Progress

  • Continued development and refinement of nutrient-dense fortified food products suitable for vulnerable populations.
  • Distribution of food samples during pilot product testing through our social enterprise.

Capacity Building

  • Community members gained increased knowledge of nutrition, food safety, and the importance of supporting people living with mental illness.

7. Challenges

The absence of external funding continues to limit our ability to provide regular food assistance, expand outreach, and reach more vulnerable beneficiaries.

Additional financial support will enable us to provide nutritious meals, strengthen community outreach, and improve the wellbeing of people living with severe mental illness across Southeast Nigeria.

8. Prospects and Future Plans

In the coming months, we aim to:

  • Expand nutrition support for people living with severe mental illness.
  • Increase community awareness and reduce stigma surrounding mental health.
  • Strengthen partnerships with mental health facilities, caregivers, and community organizations.
  • Scale the production of nutrient-dense fortified food products to support vulnerable populations.
  • Mobilize additional resources to expand humanitarian feeding programmes.

We remain optimistic that future donor support will enable us to significantly increase our reach and improve the lives of those living with severe mental illness.

9. Conclusion

Although we have not yet received external financial support for this project, our commitment to serving vulnerable people living with severe mental illness remains unwavering. Through innovation, volunteerism, and the continued support of our social enterprise, we continue laying the foundation for sustainable humanitarian impact.

We sincerely thank GlobalGiving for providing this platform and look forward to partnering with donors who share our vision of ensuring that every vulnerable person has access to nutritious food, compassionate care, and hope for a better future.

With sincere gratitude,

Rosita Agomuo
