Second Harvest connects more than 250,000 hungry children, families, and seniors in San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties to nutritious food in the neighborhoods where they live, learn, work, and play each month. For every dollar donated, we can provide 2 nutritious meals to the community. Together, we feed 1 in 10 of our neighbors.
1 in 4 people in Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties are at risk of hunger. In fact, 1 in 10 hungry people living in the valley receive some of the food they consume each month from Second Harvest. More than half of those served are children and seniors. They are often hardworking families who are doing the right things, but are struggling with the high cost of living in Silicon Valley and can't earn enough to make ends meet.
We provide food efficiently through a network of more than 300 partner non-profit agencies operating more than 800 different food distribution sites across our two counties. In addition to partnering with local non-profits, we address under served geographic areas and populations through our own direct service programs. This model allows us to provide more than 100,000 meals per day to those struggling with hunger in the community.
Our vision is to end local hunger by ensuring that anyone who needs a meal can get a meal. People cannot thrive on an empty stomach. Nothing else matters when you're hungry.
