A Simple Gift That Meant Everything

By Marilynn Akinyi | Communications Assistant

“As a mother of three, the festive season is always bittersweet. While it's a time meant for joy and celebration, it can also be a period of great stress when you're struggling to provide even the basics. Last December, I was one of the fortunate parents who received a food basket through Turning Point's Holiday Feeding Programme, and I cannot express how much it meant to my family.

The basket came at a time when we had very little. With schools closed and no access to the usual meals provided during school time, I worried daily about how I would keep my children nourished. The food basket was not just a parcel of groceries—it was a gift of dignity and joy. It included essentials like rice, beans, cooking oil, maize meal, sugar, salt, among other things, allowing us to enjoy a festive holiday together as a family. For once, my children could laugh and play without the shadow of hunger hanging over them.

This experience reminded me that kindness still exists, and that we are not alone. The Holiday Feeding Programme doesn't just fill stomachs—it brings hope. It eases the burden on struggling parents and ensures that children can experience the magic of the holidays, no matter their circumstances.”

Last year, thanks to the incredible support from donors like you, a total of 223 food baskets were distributed through our Holiday Feeding Programme. The joy and gratitude expressed by the families were overwhelming. We deeply thank you for contributing, and we invite you to continue supporting this impactful initiative.Your generosity helps turn a difficult season into one of love, warmth, and nourishment for the families who need it most.
