School Re-entry for Girls on the Move!

The Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWEZI) has had a busy beginning of the year, all thanks to you for supporting our ‘send 20 girls back to school’ project throughout 2016. We are glad to notify you that we have started enrolling our selected beneficiaries into secondary school one at a time.

Our first beneficiary, a teen mom has started form 4 at Domboramwari High School in January under the Non Formal Education Programme(NFE). She will be writing National Ordinary level examinations this November. She will be writing the following 8 subjects: English Language, English Literature, History, Geography, Shona, Science, Commerce, and Mathematics. FAWEZI has paid school fees for this term January-April, bought school uniforms and stationery. Once again thank you to our supporters; it is you who have made this possible!

The NFE Policy was launched in 2015 by the Government of Zimbabwe to provide alternative pathways and widen access to education for various categories of learners such as young people and adults who had never attended school or had dropped out of school. Therefore, according to this policy, every school in Zimbabwe is a centre for learners who would want to access education through Non Formal means.

This NFE policy reaffirms Government’s commitment to increasing access to education for all Zimbabweans and facilitating the fulfillment of the learning needs and basic rights of all learners in line with the Constitution of Zimbabwe.

FAWEZI has also selected three more girls who will enroll by the end of March 2017. Two of the girls will be enrolled in form 2 mainstream classes at Epworth Secondary School. FAWEZI intends to support them up to O’ level. If funds permit, phase 2 of this project will raise resources to take them to Advanced level and further to tertiary education.

Our third beneficiary will be starting form 3 at the same school. These girls all dropped out of school because their parents and guardians could not afford paying their school fees.Currently FAWEZI is in the process of securing uniforms and stationery that will enable them to start school. Our girls were selected from the Epworth Mabvuku Tafara District which has a high number of economically challenged households and child headed families.  

We would also like to make a specific call for support during the  Global Giving Girl Fund Campaign  were you can help us  secure funding for the whole year by donating as little as $10.

Kindly consider donating again throughout the year so that we achieve our goal of changing the lives of disadvantaged girls who dropped out of school due to pregnancy and financial challenges.
