Provide School Shoes to Kenyan Orphans

We at Fabulous African Fabrics are very proud of the high marks our boys and girls make in academics.  They also excell in the arts and athletics.  Laura Salazar, founder of FAF, discovered the children of the Good Samaritan Children's Home at an international children's theatre conference in Kenya where they were performing a play.  Singing together is a joyous part of the children's lives.  Through the years we have been the recipient of many  children's drawings which we have turned into cards and shown at art exibits in the States.

Most public schools in Kenya start their third and last semester of the year in the second week of September 2013. Second semester was hugely affected by the teachers’ strike in many public schools sending all students back to their homes. Just as all students from other schools, the children of Good Samaritan Home retreated to the only home they know under the care of their founder, Mercy Thuo and her staff. The teachers were demanding a better pay.

That aside, we have exciting news to share regarding the exemplary academic performance of children living at the Good Samaritan Children’s Home(GSCH). Two of the students attending one school in Nairobi were the best performers in their classes (9^th and 12 Grade respectively). The best performing student in the 9^th grade was the most excellent in nine subjects including Math and Science. Above all, this student’s remarkable leadership skills had earned him a student leadership position right from the time he joined the school. In this same school, the best performing male student in 12^th grade was the most outstanding student in the school scoring grade A in all subjects including Math and Science. Similarly, another female student from GSCH attending a different school was the best performer in her 12^th grade final examination. The list goes on and on in regard to the commendable academic performance of the GSCH children.

Undoubtedly, we attribute these achievements to a concerted effort of the founder and staff of GSCH, donors, and partners who have made contributions towards this most worthy cause. All contributions you make go towards purchasing the items the children need for school as well as purchasing food, beddings, and other basic necessities needed in the home that make life a little comfortable for these children.

Currently, 258 children from GSCH are attending various schools in Nairobi and nearby counties. As schools open this week, the children are in need of various educational and personal items including, tuition fees, school uniform and shoes, stationeries, bus fares and other personal effects. Acquisition of these items means uninterrupted learning for the children. We most sincerely thank you for all you have done to ensure that the children remain in school throughout the school year.
