Kibumba, located in Nyiragongo territory, faces a severe shortage of clean drinking water. Residents-especially women and children-must walk long distances to fetch water, which is often unsafe, exposing them to waterborne diseases like cholera, typhoid, and diarrhea. The lack of water collection and distribution infrastructure increases health risks and hampers socio-economic activities. This project aims to provide a sustainable solution to this critical issue.
The project aims to resolve the critical lack of access to clean and safe drinking water in Kibumba. Residents, especially women and children, walk long distances to collect water from unsafe sources, exposing them to waterborne diseases such as cholera and typhoid. The absence of water infrastructure also limits hygiene practices and daily activities. By developing a reliable water supply system, the project seeks to improve health, reduce disease, and enhance the well-being and dignity.
The project will resolve the problem by conducting a technical study to identify the best water source, then drilling a borehole or developing a protected spring. It will install a distribution system with water kiosks for easy access. Community members will receive hygiene education, and a local water committee will be trained to manage and maintain the system, ensuring sustainable access to clean and safe drinking water in Kibumba.
The project will resolve the water access problem in Kibumba by first conducting a technical and geophysical study to find the best water source. It will develop a borehole or protected spring to provide clean, reliable water. A distribution system with a water tank and community kiosks will ensure easy and safe access. Hygiene awareness sessions will educate residents on safe water use and sanitation. Finally, a local water committee will be formed and trained to manage and maintain the system.
