Football has to power to unite more than anything else in the world. More significantly, it has the power to restore childhood to children who have lost everything. The F4L programme will am to secure funds to launch a F4L Syria programme and support the child-survivors through play and normalcy. The F4L virtual stadium is a call for all football fans to help us launch our Syria Programme and bring some sense of hope and future to children.
Since 2011, over 470,000 people have lost their lives (Syrian Center for Policy Research, 2016), including over 12,000 children, and over 7.6 million internally displaced. UNICEF estimates that 8.4 million children are affected by the conflict either in Syria or as refugees. This children have lost everything, including their innocence and childhood.
After the immediate humanitarian response, there is a vital need to restore hope, a sense of identity and belonging to the children who in some cases have lost everything. There is a need to restore childhood. Football for Life (F4L), FundLife International's flagship programme, is a strategic relief and development project delivered through organised and regularly scheduled 'play' sessions. In the process, the programme gives back joy and confidence to besieged children.
The F4L programme will support over 10,000 children and create a foundation for both young people and communities to rebuild their lives. The programme will create 5 new safe-spaces for children and create 10 new football teams to give children much needed purpose and belief. Whilst the immediate impact of the programme will be felt by children, the creation of local football clubs will give back dignity and identity to communities that have been stripped away.
