Dear New Eyes Supporter,
Thank you for your support of our "New Eyes for Kentucky" project! You donation was put to quick use to provide new prescription eyeglasses to low-income Kentucky residents, giving them the clear vision to experience life's possibilitites and potentials.
Since February, New Eyes has provided 257 Kentuckians with new eyeglasses. We assisted 4 children, 151 women and 102 men, ranging in ages from 7 to 93 years old. GlobalGiving donors enabled 25 of these individuals to get the clear vision necessary to improve their lives. Because of your support, children can succeed in school; adults can seek employment; and seniors can live more safely and independently.
Kentucky is the largest state client for our services of new eyeglasses. That is because Kentucky's Medicaid program does not cover the cost of eyeglasses, and because 72% of Kentucky seniors are enrolled in traditional Medicare that also does not cover eyeglasses. And while eyeglass coverage for children is covered under Kentucky Medicaid, if they break or lose their glasses, it is difficult to obtain a replacement pair (which is why New Eyes provides 2 pairs of glasses to each child!).
New Eyes and YOU fill the gap for those Kentuckians in need so that they can see clearly. They struggle to pay the basics of rent, food, childcare - and a pair of glasses (averaging over $200 in the U.S.) becomes a luxury instead of the necessity it truly is. You change all that with your donation!
Thank you for standing with New Eyes as we change lives together with the simple, yet critical, tool of eyeglasses. Clear vision matters - and we are grateful you believe in our mission to bring clear vision to those in need!
Warmest regards,
Jean Gajano
