In Uganda, the Little League program is part of the International School, a unique school that links academics and sports. Children who attend the International School receive a quality education with special emphasis on math and science while also participating in a broad range of sports, including baseball. However, baseball equipment is not available for purchase in Africa, which requires the International School to be creative to support their baseball dreams.
Pitch In For Baseball and Uganda Little League have been partnering since 2009 to get equipment to the International School. Over the past three years, we have shipped more than 10,000 pieces of equipment (both new and used), totaling an estimated $160,000 value.
In late January 2015, the Uganda Little League received nearly $10,000 worth of equipment, which supported 6 new teams. This month, Uganda Little League will begin their 2014 Little League World Series journey with the Uganda National Tournaments, which will determine the Uganda representatives for the Europe/Africa Little League Regional Tournaments held in Kutno, Poland. The winners from there will then be the representatives for the Little League World Series.
Pitch In For Baseball makes one very large donation to Uganda Little League each year. We not only provide the majority of the equipment (both new and used) but also serve as a central entity for accepting donations earmarked for Uganda from other businesses, individuals and communities.
Thank you for helping to grow youth baseball in Uganda!
