This past year the Uganda Little League team made history by becoming the first team from Africa to qualify for the Little League World Series. Pitch In For Baseball has played a major role in that success over the past few years by donating equipment to the children and communities in need. The donation will upcoming help Uganda youth baseball grow and give more young boys and girls the opportunity to realize their dreams and to play baseball and softball.
Access to safe and age appropriate equipment is a tremendous barrier to participation for boys and girls in Uganda and throughout many parts of the developing world. While the development efforts that Pitch In For Baseball and Uganda Baseball have achieved to date are impressive, we are merely scratching the surface. More equipment will directly and immediately translate to greater participation and greater opportunities for boys and girls throughout Uganda.
Pitch In For Baseball, through its partnerships with Little League Baseball and the newly formed Baseball Federation in Uganda has the infrastructure in place to give kids the instruction and the opportunity to play baseball in a safe and positive environment. With generous donations like the new bats from Nike, we'll continue to provide opportunities, like baseball and softball, that keep the children off the streets and give them hope for a healthier and brighter future.
Plain and simple, more equipment will mean more children will have the chance to play. In addition to the obvious health benefits that a more active lifestyle will bring, the kids playing will build self-esteem and learn valuable life skills, such as teamwork, sportsmanship and dealing with adversity. These are life skills that they will have for the rest of their lives.
