"Literacy Hut" is an inclusive program of establishing community based/ community run huts in rural areas with minimal access to education for provision of inclusive, innovative and interactive education for out of school children's, adults (male/ female) and the school going children. The Huts, self sustainable will feature around 500 general, history and other discipline books, art work, reading/ learning activities and story telling session for children etc.
The problem being addressed is multi-fold, embedded firstly in insufficient and outdated educational opportunity of education in rural Pakistan, secondly around 15-20% out of school children, no mechanism of adult learning, especially women folk due to lack of inclusive education opportunity and lastly the lack of innovative and interactive education to the children's especially. For this, a comprehensive program "Literacy Hut" has been devised, to bring everything together under one roof.
Literacy Hut comprises of a simple structure, which comprises of around 500 various theme books, art sessions, laptop for innovative learning to children and two dedicated Community Literacy Facilitators to spearhead this change in the society, by reaching out to all segment and ages for education. It runs on community engagement and endorsement, being a self sustainable mechanism after initial establishment of the hut. In phase 1, 10 huts will be established, each costing approximately $4000.
Estimation for 15 years, 30 Huts in all in 3 phases The 30 L-H to benefit an estimated 15000 children enrolled at present in schools Over the life of 15 years, further 31500 to benefit through new enrollments (60-70) children per school A further 12-13000 out of school childrens to benefit from the L-H (At 20-25% Stat) Adult (43%) beneficiaries from this initiative is calculated at 10-15,000 Total (Approximately) 100,000 childrens and adults
