500 School Kits for Bukavu's Future

By PASCAL NIYONZIMA | CORDINATOR

1. Background and Rationale

In Bukavu, South Kivu Province of the Democratic Republic of Congo, many children attending public primary schools face a harsh reality: their families cannot afford even the most basic school supplies. The lack of notebooks, pens, and school bags weakens children’s educational journeys and forces some to drop out of school prematurely.

This situation fuels a cycle of poverty and limits the future opportunities of an entire generation. In response, our organization launched the project “Equip 500 Kids in Bukavu With School Kits” to address this urgent and tangible need.

2. Project Objective

The main objective of this project is to provide 500 complete school kits to vulnerable children enrolled in public primary schools in Bukavu, in order to support school retention and improve learning conditions.

3. Beneficiaries

  • 500 children (girls and boys) from low-income families
  • Pupils attending public primary schools in Bukavu
  • Children identified in collaboration with schools, teachers, and parents

4. Project Activities

Each child will receive a complete school kit including:

  • A backpack
  • Notebooks
  • Pencils and pens
  • An eraser and a ruler

All supplies will be purchased locally to support the local economy. Distribution will take place directly in schools, in close coordination with school administrators, teachers, and parents, ensuring transparency and effectiveness.

5. Project Status and Progress

  • Total project budget: USD 13,500
  • Funds raised to date: USD 26
  • Fundraising platform: GlobalGiving

Through our collaboration with GlobalGiving, we are confident in our ability to reach the project’s financial target. Ongoing fundraising efforts and early contributions demonstrate strong interest and trust in this initiative.

The project is currently in the identification phase of partner schools and beneficiary children.
Project implementation is scheduled to begin in November 2025.

6. Expected Impact

The impact of this project goes far beyond the distribution of school supplies. When a child receives a school kit:

  • They are more likely to stay in school
  • They participate more actively in class
  • Their academic performance improves

In the long term, this project will help reduce educational inequalities, empower children, and nurture a generation capable of driving positive change within their communities. Every school kit provided today helps build a stronger Congo tomorrow.

7. Call for Support

We extend a sincere call to donors, partners, and all people of goodwill: your support is vital to giving these children a real chance to succeed. Even a small contribution can make a meaningful difference in a child’s life.

Together, through international solidarity and with the support of GlobalGiving, we can achieve our goal and create lasting impact.

8. Acknowledgements

We express our deepest gratitude to all donors who have already contributed, as well as to GlobalGiving for its continued support and trust. Your commitment brings hope to the children of Bukavu and drives the success of this project.
