Pack-a-Pren is a standout team of Year 10 students from Swansea, Wales, whose passion for sport, sustainability, and local culture led to the creation of a unique business. As part of the Young Enterprise Company Programme in 2025, the team designed and sold DIY flat-pack stadium kits made from recycled plywood.
Each model paid tribute to iconic sporting venues like the Silverstone F1 Track, with bilingual Welsh/English instructions promoting inclusivity and cultural pride.
What began as a creative classroom project quickly evolved into a fully functioning business. The students embraced every aspect - from research and design to production, sales, and public pitching.
Their journey led them to win awards at local, Welsh, and UK-wide levels, including the Most Sustainable Company Award 2025 at the national final.
Pack-a-Pren set out with a clear and powerful purpose: To empower the next generation through creativity, sustainability, and cultural identity. Each kit delivered:
“This is the only model of our local stadium, and we have taken it another level by providing professionally manufactured and cut sustainable wood and created a fun and innovative activity with the product.” The project became a platform for students to spark conversations about sustainability, education, and shared heritage - not only in the classroom, but across their community.
Through the Programme, students had the chance to build a business from the ground up. Pack-a-Pren was built by seven student leaders, each playing a crucial role. They learned to collaborate across departments, take responsibility, and lead with clarity and resilience. Along the way, they gained business, leadership, and financial literacy skills as well as grew their confidence in public speaking. Technical skills such as time management and branding complemented their experience in team-building. The project was not without its setbacks, including difficulties sourcing local plywood and juggling GCSE schoolwork, but these challenges also proved to be opportunities for learning:
“We learned through the programme the importance of collaborative work and the impact of effective teamwork.”
Participation in Young Enterprise didn’t just help students build a business—it helped them thrive academically, encouraging them with:
Pack-a-Pren has big ambitions for the future. The team plans to expand their stadium range to include more UK venues, and run creative workshops in schools and youth clubs. They’re looking to explore forming a long-term social enterprise focused on education, sustainability, and Welsh culture.
They’re also keen to mentor future YE teams and inspire the next generation of changemakers, stating: “We hope that our business inspires future students to take on Young Enterprise projects, leaving behind a legacy of creativity, sustainability, and innovation within our school community.”
