In the UK's most disadvantaged communities, increased opportunity and access to support is vital for young people. Young Enterprise provides learning pathways enabling young people to develop confidence and key skills such as teamwork, problem solving and resilience. Through our Company Programme and Employability Masterclass, we raise aspirations, develop enterprising mindsets and offer inspiring role models as mentors, equipping young people to overcome social mobility barriers and to thrive.
We believe that all young people have potential, but sadly access to unlock this is not currently universal. Too often, young people in disadvantaged communities lack the connections and inspiration to look beyond current circumstances. In these areas, careers education is vital in showing young people jobs and opportunities they've never considered. By working with young people facing disadvantage we are working to tackle the barriers to social mobility and address inequalities of opportunity.
Our programmes develop the skills key to entering the world of work and feature engaging, practical activities that enhance the school curriculum, alongside meeting inspiring volunteer mentors from diverse industries. By participating in our programmes, young people gain skills endorsed by the Confederation of British Industry but which aren't accessed through formal education: problem-solving, financial literacy, initiative, confidence, resilience, organisation, communication and teamwork.
Providing employability and entrepreneurial skills education empowers young people facing disadvantage to develop aspirations and make informed choices about their future. Careers education has double the impact for economically-disadvantaged young people, so our work helps to close the disadvantage gap. By connecting young people with inspirational role models from the world of work, we improve their long-term employment prospects and benefit their communities' social and economic prospects.
