We believe in building a future where no child goes hungry. In our immediate community, that means feeding the children in our residential care and our pre-school students. That’s why we rolled up our sleeves this season for Shamba Day. Shamba is a Swahili word meaning "farm." This day is a hands-on effort to plant, grow, and harvest the food that will sustain our children throughout the year.
This February, after weeks of preparation, we planted five hectares of maize—an annual and vital step toward food self-sufficiency! It took a village (and 780,000 Tanzanian shillings) to make this happen: hiring local workers, renting a tractor, and feeding our team as they worked.
Now for the exciting part—the maize has sprouted! The climate is changing here, with increasingly erratic rainfall and dry periods affecting other farmers in our area. But we’re monitoring our crops closely, and our recent visit to the farm showed thriving green shoots, standing strong and ready to grow. With enough rain, we expect to harvest over 50 bags of maize (5,000kg) in June.
This wouldn’t be possible without you—our incredible supporters. Your generosity helps us plant seeds of hope, security, and nourishment for the future. We can’t wait to share the harvest with you!
Stay tuned for updates, and thank you for being part of our journey!
