Children like Arun need your support

By F Beatrice Vanaja | Chief Administrative Officer

Wishing you all a Joyful Season's Greetings dear Donors,

Let us hear what Hasini (name changed) says about her son: " Arun (name changed) is my third son. My elder sons are married and they are living separately. My husband Anand (name changed) works as a load man in a saw mill. I do beedi rolling. Our income is sufficient to take care of the three of us if my husband had given what he earns to the family. But he gives only a meagre portion of his wages for family expenses since he has other vice. So I sent Arun for selling cooldrink in the roads. We got some money from it and hence I preferred Arun selling the cooldrink than studying. But Arun always wanted to study."

Arun interrupted then and said, "One day when I was selling the cooldrink the special school teacher saw me and asked why am I not studying. I told about my family. She asked me to take her to my Amma (mom). She talked with amma and forced her to send me to school. Amma did not accept easily. But the teacher did not give up and now I am in school. I joined the special school in 2012. After two years, I was admitted to the regular school. Now I am studying 7th standard. Thanks to the teacher and those who support this project." Thank you dear donors for making this happen.

To emphasise the importance of education to parents like Hasini, an awareness programme was conducted in KajaPet, Trichirappalli. The programme was conducted in the Corporation School. The meeting addressed the children and their parents. A special plea was placed before the regular school teachers to take action when they see a child labour. The Project Officer of Child Labour Elimination Project, The District Labour Welfare Officer, the School Principal and our Secretary of New Life addressed the crowd. It was emphasised that "Education is a wealth that cannot be lost or stolen".

During this quarter we received donations of $ 761.84. Out of this $58.57 is spent on the part rent paid for the centers. $703.27 is set aside for this purpose. With this money we can support 4-5 children. It is proposed to disburse the education support to the children in the next quarter. And the list of children who are eligible is being prepared. Since April 2015, three children were already supported. Last year 19 children got the education support with your generous donations.

Thank you dear donors for helping the children continue their studies and giving hope to them for a bright future. Without you this project can't be a success. Kindly keep supporting the project by spreading words to your friends and relatives who are likeminded. We aim to give education support 12 more children and require $1241 ($2004 for 12 children - $763 received in December 2015) for reaching that goal. We are sure we can help 12 children with your support.

With regards
