Greetings!
The month of January was the celebration month for our ex-child labour children. On 14th January, the Harvest Festival of Tamil Nadu, "Pongal" was celebrated with children from special school for child labourers, coaching class and early learning centre. Fun games were conducted for the children and their parents. Pongal (a sweet made of rice) was cooked and distributed to all the participants.
The 70th Republic Day was celebrated in a slum we work (where family quarrels, addiction to alcohol, child abuse, poverty and crimes are prone). Indian national flag was hoisted by the Secretary of Rotary Club of Diamond City Queens.
In the function, Rani (name changed), one of our coaching class students shared her 9 years of experience with New Life. And the best part of it is, she was child labour once, rescued and coached in our special school. Then she was mainstreamed and coached in our coaching class.
Rani was working in a grocery store packing grocery as her parents were happy with the money she brought. On seeing her, the New Life team counselled the child and the parents (it was not an easy task) and admitted her to the special school. She was trained in the special school and then admitted to the regular school in 6th standard. Now she is in her 11th standard. She wants to become a doctor.
This New Year brought with it, appreciation for our team's hard work. You would be happy to know that New Life got four badges in appreciation from GlobalGiving. All these happy happenings and celebrations are possible only with your wonderful support. We are thankful to you dear donors.
You will also be happy to know that New Life's initiative in skilling the ex-child labourers who are weak in studies has succeeded. We participated in the Social Initiative Contest of Intel and are selected for giving Computer Billing Skill Training to 100 ex-child labourers who could not continue their studies. We thank you for being with us all these years and continuing your support with trust in our work. Your trust made us conceive this new project to help these abused children.
