As wildfires rage across Northern California, both domestic animals and wildlife are at risk. Our volunteer veterinarian staff are deployed and already treating animals for severe burns, smoke inhalation and more. By providing "shelter in place" support, animals are able to remain in their own habitat and still be given the care they need.
Wildfires are burning across Northern California, prompting evacuations and threatening domestic and farm animals and wildlife. Issues include risk of burns, smoke inhalation, and a multitude of traumas. Residents are often forced to evacuate, leaving animals to fend for themselves.
Sonoma CART is mobilizing across multiple areas impacted by wildfires in the northern third of the state. Our volunteers are trained veterinary professionals who are providing emergency care for injured animals of any species. In addition, trained SIP (shelter-in-place) teams are driving through affected areas 5 - 9 hours per day making sure all survivors have water, food, and vet care if needed.
As the wildfire season becomes the wildfire year, both companion and working animals are at risk. CART works to ensure the best possible outcome and welfare for every animal its broad community that is affected by an emergency or disaster. CART also has created preparedness materials and conducted extensive training for animal owners.
