Although the 2021 academic year ended with rising vaccination rates and access to some in-person classes and activities for a few students, it was still another challenging year. Many students were not given the opportunity to complete all the learning they would have completed in a typical year and will move on to the next grade unprepared. Unfortunately, students from low-income households are at risk of graduating from school without the skills, behaviour and mindsets to fully succeed in university or at work.
At CasaSito, we are convinced that it’s critical to take a holistic approach and that the academical and professional success also depend on critical thinking, talent development, and emotional support. It’s essential listen to the worries and needs of our scholars and their parents and design activities that promote their mental health and support their physical well-being.
CasaSito´s enrichment activities, workshops and psychological support have never been more necessary. The classes, such as Math, Music, English, Debate, Art and Theatre of the Oppressed amongst others, allow our scholars to follow their passions and talents, obtain and build new skills and knowledges, prepare them for progression and employment, and open them a save space where they can share their fears and insecurities with their peers and our team. Scholars who have benefitted from our activities have shown a lift in engagement, motivation, tolerance and their academic devolpment.
In 2022, CasaSito's enrichment classes such as Debate, Art and Theatre will focus on the topic of non-violent communication, and aim at providing tools that will empower our scholars and can be applied in daily life. We are convinced that the classes will help them to overcome anxity and fears, and to emerge as strong and resilient young people.
