On March 16, 2020, a national closure of schools and universities in Guatemala was implemented in the context of the outbreak of COVID-19. As a result, teaching was undertaken remotely via digital platforms. After a three-month summer break, millions of students are virtually starting this new academic year. During this first quarter of the year, CasaSito will implement its activities remotely and is hoping to return to face-to-face activities as soon as the situation allows.
During this new cycle, different enrichment workshops will be offered to our scholars, amongst others Art, English, Mathematics, Theater of the Oppressed, Debate and creative reading/writing. In addition, CasaSito is offering a holistic coaching program to its scholars from Junior High and High school including vocational orientation, mentoring, and sexual health education. The program includes life skills training, tutoring, coaching, personal and social development that aims at inspiring and equipping youths to overcome and strive.
For many people, being healthy requires social interactions with friends and family. Despite all the restrictions and challenges our scholars have to deal with during these difficult times, they are enthusiastic and positive to start this new school year. Although the enrichment workshops will be implemented virtually, the scholars have the opportunity to socialize, interact and have fun safely with their friends and fellows what will help them to overcome the pandemic fatigue.
We are convinced that the 2021 program will help our scholars to overcome the negative psychological and social effects of the pandemic and encourage and empower them to emerge as strong and resilient young people.
