Over the past 12 months, the project set out to support 300 highly vulnerable children with essential scholastic materials to help them learn, thrive, and achieve their full academic potential. These children come from some of the most fragile backgrounds single-mother households, child-headed families, children from the streets, those living with elderly guardians, children with disabilities, and those orphaned at an early age. For many of them, the lack of basic learning tools is the single greatest barrier standing between them and the opportunity to succeed like their peers. The goal of this project has been to restore hope, dignity, and equal opportunity by equipping them with the materials they need to learn effectively.
The total project budget was $14,030, of which we were able to raise $1. Although this amount was small, we are deeply grateful to the friend whose contribution enabled the purchase of a box of chalk. This simple but vital teaching aid significantly improved classroom engagement and supported hundreds of vulnerable learners. It served as a powerful reminder that even the smallest gift can create meaningful change, and it strengthened our commitment to mobilize more support so that these children can continue receiving the tools they desperately need.
Throughout the project period, children engaged in a variety of transformative, learner-centered activities, including picture drawing, sports and games, solving mathematics equations, and creative expression through art. These activities not only improved children’s confidence and participation, but also strengthened critical skills such as fine motor coordination, creativity, comprehension, and problem-solving.
To support the small number of children with disabilities enrolled at Future Stars Preparatory, the project also introduced a few basic inclusive-learning aids that significantly enhanced participation and accessibility. These included large-print storybooks and high-contrast writing materials for learners with low vision, sign-language learning cards to support children with hearing impairments, easy-grip pencils and slant boards for children with physical or writing difficulties, and visual routine charts to help children with intellectual or learning disabilities follow lessons more easily. These simple, cost-effective tools improved classroom inclusion and ensured that no child was left behind.
However, to fully unlock the children’s potential, there remains an urgent need for $14,029 to provide comprehensive scholastic supplies including exercise books, pens, pencils, geometry sets, science sample kits, English comprehension materials, and art supplies. These resources are essential to prepare children for STEM-aligned learning and to help them acquire practical, lifelong skills.
Additionally, many of the learners lack school uniforms, making them vulnerable to risks such as abduction when walking in their communities. Uniforms not only ensure safety and easy identification, but also nurture a sense of belonging, motivation, and pride.
Future Stars Preparatory Nursery and Primary School serves children from some of the poorest slum areas around Entebbe and Kampala, where families cannot afford even the most basic learning tools. Without scholastic materials, children struggle to study, retain knowledge, practice skills, or participate meaningfully in the classroom.
With partner support, this project can transform their learning experience and create lasting impact opening doors to education, empowerment, and a brighter future for Uganda’s most vulnerable children.
