With our local partner the Mekong English Centre we are trying to raise funds to cover the cost of training 10 Lao men and women to become teachers of English at their school.
Currently, the MEC have selected 4 participants and are now working to select the further 6. Training is intended to start in May, 2011.
During the 6 months of training, the trainee teachers will be receiving a local salary for the 1st 3 months whilst undergoing their initial training. This payment enables them to focus on their studies and not have to seek work elsewhere which would interfere with their commitment to their studies.
For the 2nd 3 months of training, this salary will increase as they will be practicing their skills with classes of students. After their training has been successfully completed, they will be offered a contract of employment for 3 years. These conditions are very fair.
All donations to this project will help to train future teachers in Laos.
