Our team have had a very busy 3 months, from organising our THIRD Diani Sea Turtle Festival, hosting several international students to partnering with a nearby all women’s mangrove conservation group!
In May, we continued with our weekly sessions at a nearby all-girls college. As the students had been on break, they returned in May and we kick started the term with a new module on Marine Life. Students learnt about the multiple benefits we receive from the ocean as well as the various habitats within. We looked at challenges these habitats faced and how these can be overcome! In May, we also partnered with Infinity Outdoors by hosting one of their school visits to the coast, organising an educative glass bottom boat ride, trips to a local sacred forest and primate rescue centre.
In June, we organized our third sea turtle festival, and we are happy to report it was a huge success, receiving over 300 students from the coast. We also hosted over 11 conservation organisations, including our newest partners, the Munje Tunusuru Women's Conservation Group! At the end of March, we signed an MoU, stating that we would be supporting them over the next 2 years. Through this partnership we have been raising funding for the group, who conserve, restore and protect a large patch of mangrove forest! We were able to provide them with the first installment at the festival! We also funded for them to show case their items and project on the day. We hope to raise even more funding for these incredible women as well as seek additional business training for them. You can support them by donating to our GlobalGiving Campaign, please visit; https://www.globalgiving.org/projects/women-saving-mangroves-in-kenya/ for more information.
Over the last period we also received international groups through Camps International and will be receiving a further 250 students throughout July and August through their summer programme!
We thank you for your continued support, without it, we would not be able to continue our work with local schools and communities!
We wish you a great week ahead,
From all of us at the Conservation Education Society
