Children who are not in school or who have not had the opportunity to receive an education are an easy target for human trafficking. For lack of a notebook, a reading book, or a school uniform, a child is forced to leave school thus leaving them more vulnerable to predators. At La Conscience we work to provide children with basic necessities and keep them safe from harms way. With the help of donors, we can extend our efforts to keep the children in Togo and our neighboring countries safe.
Human trafficking has become a well-organized networks, that takes advantage of poverty and naivety. Human traffickers prey on the youth that wander the streets because they are without a home, on the large families that cannot support their children, and on the powerless. Many of the young girls are exploited as sex objects and the males are used in plantations. Basic schooling for every child appears as a positive first step to protect the youth and give them a safe place to grow and learn.
The realization of this project will give 1,000 children exposed to child trafficking either through societal risks or actual exploitation the basic equipment to start primary school. This project will provide the youth a safe haven in which they can grow into response adults free from the realities of human trafficking that loom around our country. This project will get children off the streets and into the classrooms. It will provide for their individual futures and the future of our world.
As Nelson Mandela once said, "Education is the most powerful weapon we can use to change the world." We take this quote to heart and want to educate our youth so that they may become tomorrows leaders. Through education child trafficking is significantly reduced and we hope to see it completely eradicate. With the opportunity for an education and the protection from human trafficking, we believe we can make global change in ending human trafficking.
