What happened after Christmas?

By Kama Jarzabek-Nowak | Project team member

Last Christmas, you helped bring warmth, food, and hope into the homes of older people who had almost given up believing that someone still cared.

For many seniors, Christmas was not just a special day. It became the beginning of something much more important.

The meals, visits, and conversations they received during the holidays opened the door to ongoing support that continues today.

A Christmas gift that lasted longer than Christmas

Over the past several months, we have continued visiting many of the seniors you first helped during our Christmas campaign.

Not all changes can be measured in numbers. Some happen quietly — when someone who spent months alone starts opening the door without fear, smiles again, or simply has someone to share a cup of tea with.

That is exactly what your generosity has made possible.

Small moments that change everything

Every day, our staff and volunteers visit older people who often have no one else.

We deliver warm meals, help with groceries and medication, but we also bring something equally important: conversation.

One of our seniors recently told us:

"When I hear someone knocking on my door now, I know it's good news."

For most people, this may sound ordinary.

For someone who has lived alone for years, it changes everything.

Your Christmas gift is still working

Although the holidays are long behind us, loneliness has not disappeared.

During the summer months, many seniors spend entire days without speaking to another person. Families travel, neighbours are away, and isolation often becomes even more painful.

That is why we continue showing up.

Because dignity should never be seasonal.

Thanks to you...

Because of your support, we continue providing:

  • regular warm meals,
  • food packages,
  • home visits and companionship,
  • help with medication and medical appointments,
  • activities at our Day Centre, where seniors rebuild friendships and confidence.

Today, more than 600 seniors receive support through our programmes.

And it all started with someone deciding to care.

Thank you

When you supported our Christmas campaign, you gave much more than a holiday gift.

You helped start relationships that continue today.

Thank you for proving that compassion does not end when Christmas does.

Because of you, hundreds of older people know they are no longer alone.
