Dear firends of Children,
I am pleased to share the progress report of our work in Afghanistan as we strive to end illiteracy in the country. Despite the ongoing crisis in Afghanistan, we have continued to work tirelessly to ensure that children and youth have access to quality education.
Global Education Campaign has been working towards uplifting the educational sector in Afghanistan and Pakistan, particularly for those children who have never had the good fortune of holding a book in their hands and providing learning materials to students who cannot afford them. We have also done well with the education of adult women in both countries.
Our focus has been on providing education to as many children as possible, even if that means setting up classrooms in living rooms, verandas, under trees, or in the open air. We work closely with local young men and women who volunteer their services to young boys and girls in their areas, and we provide the necessary methodology, support, by-laws, and guidelines for a strict code of conduct.
I am pleased to report that the number of out-of-school children in Afghanistan enrolled in our programs has increased from 36,000 to 37,230. This increase is a significant achievement given the current crisis in the country.
Our "End Illiteracy in Afghanistan" project aims to provide quality literacy education to 4.2 million out-of-school children and vocational skills training and income-generating opportunities to their parents. This integrated approach will improve literacy and contribute to the socio-economic development of the communities. We plan to enroll/assist 100,000 students in the project's first phase, ensuring that girls and boys have equal access to quality education.
I must bring to your attention that we have encountered a significant funding challenge. We had requested $200,000 to reach out to 100,000 Afghan students at this project's start, but we have only received $67. We have had to increase the per-unit cost of the program by $1, which means that we now need $300,000 to reach our target. Global Education Campaign has provided $100,000, and we are looking to you to help us raise the remaining $200,000 to ensure that we can continue to provide quality education to Afghan children.
It has been said that education is the greatest equalizer, and we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to begin the process of education. With your help and generosity, we can continue to reach out to more children in Afghanistan and provide them with the education they deserve.
We are seeking collaborations with individuals, organizations, big or small, or governments that are concerned with world peace, fairness, and security. Join us in helping Afghan children receive a quality education during this crisis.
Thank you for your continued support and generosity.
Sincerely,
