Dear Friends of Children,
I am pleased to share the progress report of "End illiteracy in Afghanistan by the end of 2025 for the June - October 2022 period". This time also marks the 1st anniversary of the Project Launch in Afghanistan. A brief annual report is attached to this report as well.
11,249 Students Enrolled
During the June – October 2023 reporting period New Afghanistan Women Association (NAWA), the implementing partner of the Global Education Campaign (GEC), expanded its work to eleven provinces of Afghanistan and enrolled about 11,249 students under My Home- My School Project. The total number of students who have benefited since the project initiation stands at 36000.
Whiteboard and Stand Manufacturing Unit established
Ensuring the project's cost-effectiveness, GEC supported NAWA in establishing a whiteboard and whiteboard stand manufacturing unit in Afghanistan. This move will further increase the distribution of teaching aid material to the volunteers in less time. The current product manufacturing class-ready Whiteboards and whiteboard stands at 200 a month, and GEC is determined to increase the production to 1000 a month.
USD 2.74 can put a child to Education in Afghanistan
The average cost of reaching/enrolling a student is around USD 2.74. The Global Education Campaign contributedUSD 98,573 in terms of the market value of the educational material distributed to 36000 students till now.
Global Education Campaign has worked for out-of-school children for the last two decades, primarily in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Global Education Campaign's "End illiteracy in Afghanistan" aims to provide quality literacy education to their parents to 4.2 million out-of-school children, vocational skills training, and income-generating opportunities. This integrated approach will improve literacy and contribute to the socio-economic development of the communities.
Our work involves uplifting the educational sector in Pakistan, Afghanistan and beyond, by seating those children in the classrooms who have never had the good fortune of holding a book in their hands, as well as providing learning materials to the students who cannot afford them. We also have done well with the education of adult women in the two countries.
It has been said that education is the greatest equalizer, nothing could be truer. Every human being must be provided with the opportunity to begin the process of education. How far a child could go, nobody knows. At this time our focus is on seating as many children in classrooms as possible. These classrooms could be in a living room, a veranda, under a tree or simply in open air.
We are seeking collaborations with individuals, organizations; big or small, or governments that are concerned with world peace, fairness and security. An educated person with a career is less like to blow others or himself.
Our exponential speed is based on a highly fruitful and synergistic collaboration between us and the local young men and women who volunteer their services to the young boys and girls in their areas. GEC provides the methodology, support, by-laws, and guideline for a strict code of conduct.
We are reaching out to thousands of children who need education, and we need your help and generosity to reach out to more children. Join us in helping Afghan children receive a quality education during a crisis.
Thank you!
