Cholera awarenness community meetings

By Kulihoshi M | National Team Leader

Cholera outbreak is one among the serious diseases affecting people in the Democratic Republic of Congo and claiming lives every year. Generally Cholera is DRC is connected to lack of Hygiene good habits of washing hands with soap, the lack of access to clean water, lack of public toilets for people in emergency situations among others.

The Government aandd other actors do focus on treatment when there is an outbreat and relax when the situation is under control, this makes the country to loose many innocent people and also focus on this problem every year.

We believe that we can end Cholera completly and efforts should be in order to save lives through preventions, access to better services and strong awareness to people in their communities.

It is on this ground that we have regularly continued with various community meetings bringing people together and engage them on good health habits which promote prevention. Cholera sessions and information is part of our community meetings, especially among Internally Displaced Persons and Refugees who are the most vulnerable.

However we all know that the most durable solution is to empower people economically because those mostly affected are poor communities, and to end war and conflicts through peace activities.

We had three community meetings which is one per month and we hope to continue in this way even if we do not have funds. Women and childen are our main target.
