Our efforts to promote the fight against Mpox in the Democratic Republic of Congo is currently affected by various challenges. On one side we have the massive displacement of the population fleeing the war and in this way, it has been difficult to observe the health operating standards, difficult to talk and maintain the minimum of hygiene. For example due to the current war, Uvira town in South Kivu is currently affected by Cholera and other diseases.
Anther group of the population has taken direction towards the forest in order to seek a safe place, and in this process many do not have access to any form of humanitarian relief aid, in the forest they only depend on animals and this wa they have been in conatct with dead animals which are the cause of so many death. People are dying in different forest but it may be a challenge to reach to them in order to come with a clear information. People do not have access to health centers because they do not exist, and people depend on harbs as the only treatment option.
As this is happening, the DRCongo government is not currently preocupied by the Mpox Campaign, at all levels the attention is being put on the war, and most of the discussions are about the war, in the same way most the funds and other resources are being invested in the war and other security things. This also is being observed among development actors for so many months they have are investing so much in the fight against Mpox.
With the current war we have observed that the best humanitarian response is to invest more in the community resilience, in both North Kivu, and South Kivu most of the international humanitarian NGOs, left and others have not been authorized to operate, in this way the most of humanitarian actions are depending on community interventions. In this way we have still been able to echange with some members of the community in the way we can.
We still believe that this project needs funding in order to address health problems in DRCongo based on regaulra contacts with animals.
