Summary

In Nigeria, 43% of girls marry before 14, and 1 in 5 teens becomes pregnant. Disturbingly, girls aged 10-13 are often forced into marriage with men over 70. Our Youth Summit empowers teens in public schools and slums where these abuses thrive. Through peer-led workshops and policy advocacy training, participants learn to shift harmful norms, improve sexual health education, and protect girls' rights. The summit equips 500 teens with toolkits to educate 10,000 peers, report risks via SMS hotline.

Challenge

In Nigeria, 43% of girls marry before 14, and 3 in 5 becomes pregnant-facing maternal death rates 10x higher than global averages. Girls as young as 10 endure forced marriages with men over 70, leading to school dropout, HIV infections, and lifelong poverty. Cultural norms, poor sexual education, and weak law enforcement leave adolescents in slums and public schools vulnerable. Without intervention, child marriage and teen pregnancy will trap generations in cycles of preventable suffering.

Solution

This Youth Summit tackles Nigeria's child marriage and teen pregnancy crisis by empowering teens to drive change. Peer-led workshops dismantle harmful norms, while sexual health education reduces HIV risks and maternal deaths. The SMS hotline provides real-time risk reporting, connecting girls to legal/medical aid. Policy advocacy training strengthens enforcement of marriage laws in slums. By equipping 500 teens to educate 10,000 peers we'll lower maternal deaths & prevent 1,000 forced marriages

Long-Term Impact

By 2030, this project will break cycles of child marriage and teen pregnancy in Nigeria, empowering a generation of girls to stay in school and thrive. Trained teen advocates will sustain peer education networks, reducing maternal deaths by 50% and HIV rates by 40% in targeted regions. Policy reforms driven by youth advocacy will enforce marriage bans, protecting 100,000 girls yearly. Scaling to 10 states, this teen-led activism will end harmful norms & ensures 1 million girls access education.
